Welcome to my portfolio! My name is Jimmy Stanley. I am a writer, musician and filmmaker based in New York, NY, and I created this site to showcase and keep you up to date on the wide variety of projects I work on. Here you’ll find short stories, music, video content, screenwriting, acting, political communications, ad copy, and more.

“Smile and wave, boys.” - Skipper

I am based in Manhattan, NY, and have also spent time working in Los Angeles. My intention is to work as a writer/producer in film and television, and continue to compose and release music. My new album, “Crickets”, is out (as of 20 Dec 2024), and the music video for the lead single will be out in early January, which I co-wrote and co-produced with Madison DeCory.

When one graduates with a degree in creative writing, one wonders exactly what to do next. A fleeting but intense moment of worry sets in.

“Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing.” —Benjamin Franklin.

There is some speculation that Ben Franklin plagiarized this quote. Wouldn’t surprise me.

Professional writing

I’ve written copy for politicians and press releases for clients. I’ve edited speeches and similar public remarks. I’ve learned how to commandeer the powerful tone one must utilize when speaking with the authority of a public figure or servant. I have also worked as a copywriter for corporate endeavors, specifically refining website copy and marketing content.

Creative work

The grind that keeps me sane is my creative work. My ability to continue working through the suffocating weight of every day responsibility is what has taught me the unteachable virtue of perseverance. I work hard on my stories, screenplays, and music. Being a writer is around the clock work — if I’m ever in a quiet room with you and get irritated when you start speaking or humming, it’s probably because I’m forming a melody in my head and you just stepped on its nascent little beating heart.

Other

I have worked as an editor, producer, live musician, actor, personal assistant to a composer, personal assistant to a director. But my most cherished title is musician, as music is my truest form of expression and my most comfortable medium. Learn more about my new album “Crickets” on the music section of the website.

I had put a photo of a tree here. It was too zoomed in, so I removed it, hoping to correct the image size. Now I cannot put it back. I am new to Squarespace, please accept my apologies.

Thankfully, I am fluent in the English language, so I will attempt to show you the tree with words.

Behold the everlasting presence of a gargantuan maple tree, draped in leaves like ornaments, pointy, thin and aubergine. In Connecticut, trees live and die like fruit flies. The winds that join Nor’easter storms, and more recently, our climate crisis fueled superstorms, are formidable. Wicked. Branches snap and infiltrate roofs and sheds, they squash houses and cars. But this tree proliferates. This is the kind where no set of circumstances, natural or otherwise, could you foresee leading to its demise. The kind where the grass beneath knows it will forever exist under shade.

Now, I am seeking continued work in the dynamic world of creativity. I have been lucky enough to work in production, PR, politics, music, and advertising, and the balance of my work is what keeps my life interesting.

An undeniably dashing and sprite young fellow, Jimmy Stanley can also drive recreational automobiles, namely cars.
